Dear NASOM,
I am amazed to be leading NASOM. When I look back at 2025, at our successful conference in Rhode Island and at the many activities that are underway I realize that I am not leading so much as being propelled by many invested people.
First, I need to thank Shital, Caroline and Serena. As Vice-President Shital is the one getting everything done, she is organized and diplomatic and always sorts through the chaos and finds the password to save the day. Caroline, daughter of Lise, is the legacy of NASOM and is our fearless administrator who is clearly gifted at keeping busy clinicians on track. And Serena, our treasurer, has summarized the “state of OBIM” in her recent article for the Canadian Journal of General Internal Medicine. The future of NASOM is in good hands.
Second – a massive thanks to our CME team. I am so excited about the conference in Ottawa on June 5th and 6th. We are all having fun seeing this come together. Thank you Meena and Tabassum, thank you CME team for the conference, for the webinars and for being the educational pulse and perfusion of NASOM.
Third – may 2026 be gracious to our society as we tackle the strategic plan and vision for NASOM. Kara and Annabelle as leaders and all of us understand that it is time for creating a shared, purposeful and inclusive vision for what it means to be a part of NASOM and for what we can accomplish. This is a huge task and 19 people have come forward to help. It will take time and it is worth it. Thank you.
Fourth – we have added social media coordinators Gisèle and Brianna to our team and are busy coordinating some new activities. We have established a network of clinicians at North American centres to provide timely updates on OBIM activities. We are establishing a list of active fellows and engaged learners and will begin the “Fellows Forum” series of targeted webinars in 2026. Please email jayson.potts@medportal.ca to ensure that your learners are on our list.
Stephen, Michael and Nadine, I didn’t realize that this was such a hard job. Thank you for the journal, the list-serve and for building the society with such passion.
Shital called us a “tapestry” of skilled people each invested in improving the safety of pregnancy (her exact words were better). But the idea is that if you are a researcher we celebrate and need you, if you are an educator you couldn’t be more important and if you are a clinician finding a safe path through a crazy complex pregnancy, we are with you.
From Yayi to Cesar, from Xavier to Sri. Thanks for 2025.
Jayson
